OPEN's newest frame, the WI.DE, is born from the concept of navigating winding detours and is designed to tackle more extreme terrain than its predecessor, the OPEN U.P. This frameset is engineered to handle a wide range of conditions, allowing you to conquer challenging trails while still delivering impressive performance on smoother roads.
The WI.DE frameset builds upon the U.P.'s solid foundation, offering enhanced versatility with the ability to fit 27.5 x 2.4" or 700 x 46c tires. This tire clearance is achieved without compromising the bike's geometry. Key updates include a fourth cage mount under the bottom bracket for extra gear-carrying capacity, a 1.5 cm taller headtube for better handling, and a slightly lower bottom bracket height for increased stability. Additionally, the introduction of a new XS size makes the WI.DE accessible to a wider range of riders. These changes result in a frame that maintains the U.P.'s handling characteristics but offers expanded capabilities.
The WI.DE also features dropped chainstays on both sides to accommodate the larger tire clearance. OPEN notes that this design enhances bottom bracket stiffness, which helps maintain the bike's performance and ride quality. The 420 mm chainstays retain a road bike-like feel, ensuring consistent geometry across various frame sizes. Remarkably, despite these modifications, the WI.DE frame weighs in at exactly the same as the U.P., with the frame at 1040 grams and the fork at 390 grams.
With its blend of versatility, durability, and lightweight design, the OPEN WI.DE frame is an ideal choice for cyclists seeking a bike that excels in both rugged and smooth terrain. Whether you're tackling adventurous trails or enjoying more leisurely rides, the WI.DE provides the performance and adaptability you need for any cycling journey.
